How to Refill a Toner Cartridge

Refilling an existing toner cartridge is no doubt an environmentally friendly activity, as it recycles the cartridge and may be more cost effective over time.  This toner cartridge refill process can be performed an average of 3 times on most cartridges based on various reports as the components, such as the rollers wear out and will no longer function in the printer. They are manufactured as a onetime use item and adding more ink will not prolong the life of the cartridge itself. Toner refill kits are available on the market and the cost of the refill kits varies based on the model and make of the printer and ink cartridge used. They typically include the toner and the burning tool used to penetrate the ink or toner tank and the tape or seal required to close the tank and to make the ink cartridge printer ready.

The process starts by creating an opening that allows for the new toner applicator to be inserted beginning the refill process. Laser cartridge refills sometimes contain caps that can be removed and replaced after completion.  It is recommended that masks and gloves be worn during this process, even though the ink powder is not considered toxic, it fine texture can easily be inhaled and introduced to the lungs. It is also recommended not to vacuum up any spillage as the toner or ink is flammable and can ignite if the conditions are right. Spill should be cleaned immediately from furniture, clothes, and equipment as a difficult to remove stain may result.
